Diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives are under fire in many organizations. We know these initiatives are important for organizations aiming to create thriving and equitable workplace environments. Yet, beyond official policies, team leaders have considerable influence over the daily experiences of their teammates. The true measure of inclusion lies in the everyday interactions and behaviors within an organization.

Ask Your Team 

One straightforward way a leader can make sure every teammate feels included is to ask them what inclusion looks like to them. What will help them feel as if they are a part of the greater whole and contributing to the team’s success? What behaviors will the leader and teammates need to exhibit to make them feel included? Use the data they give you, practice it and then follow up to see if it’s working.
